about

Stormwatch reflects my obsession with the sea, and tells the tale of the first short story I had published. You can also download the story for free in its entirety here: www.smashwords.com/books/view/499421 - it was originally published in 2010 as part of the first Asylum Chronicles anthology, Tales From The Asylum (Last Line Publishing House).

lyrics

When the sun rises there’s a smile on her face
The babe in her arms is contented and warm
She hands him to another, a surrogate mother
Then watches him grow so he’ll come to no harm

The sea is his mother and the sea is his lover
She’ll allow him no other
And the sky will be blue,
And the wind will breathe soft
And the nets will fill fast
While something sleeps in the deep below

When the year turns her jealousy piques
The babe grown to man is now spurning her charms
He turns to another, he takes him a lover
Turns his back on the ocean and her loving arms

For she is his mother and she is his lover
She’ll allow him no other
And the sky will turn black,
And the tide will run wild
And the winds will blow fierce
And the waves will grow tall
And the monsters will stir in the deep below

So she takes back his lover and she takes back his child
She leaves him bereft and alone, all alone
She takes all his luck, keeps the fish from his hook
And she moves to destroy all he’s known, all he’s known.

For she is his mother and she is his lover
She’ll allow him no other
And the sky will turn black,
And the tide will run wild
And the winds will blow fierce
And the waves will grow tall
And the monsters are rising from the deep below

She leaves him the blame, a culprit not a victim
And they rise up against him in anger and fear
But she is his mother and she is his lover
And she will not suffer them to take him from her.

The sea is his mother and the sea is his lover
She’ll allow him no other
And the sky has turned black
And the tide it runs wild
And the winds blow so fierce
And the waves have grown tall
And the monsters are circling from the deep below

And the tide has come in
And the water is rising
And the winds howl through
And the sea fills their eyes
And the salt fills their mouths
And the monsters come to take them to the deep below

Now the sky has turned blue
And the tides they run slow
And the winds gently whisper
And the waves gently lap
While the monsters sleep sated in the deep below.
